What’s Right with North Gem?

We are nearing the end. The students and staff are ready for warm weather. They continue working for successful completion of all their activities. We have had a lot of activities and we are looking forward to the next month as we finish all we have started. The following are things that have happened in each school.

Elementary: On April 11th, 18th, and 25th the Kindergarten, first, second, and third grade got to go to Lava Hot Springs Swimming Pool and receive swimming lessons. Each child was taught by a Lava Hot Springs swim instructor, and were in small groups of 5 or less. Many of the teachers and staff also got in the pool to help with the lessons and watch the children. It was a very fun experience. After receiving a 30 minute lesson, each child got about an hour of play time. They were carefully monitored by a lifeguard, and the North Gem Elementary staff. We would like to thank the Education Foundation for paying for this wonderful activity. We are hoping to do it again next year. Thank you. We are preparing a fabulous Spring Concert we hope will be well attended, as we are working hard to perfect our performance.
Jr. High: Spring is in the air, and the end of the school year is approaching very quickly. I can’t believe it; I guess time flies when you’re having fun. The school year has been packed with activities, games, projects, elections, parties, and fun. We really appreciate all of the parents who have helped, and supported all of these activities. Students are finding they are, and will be very busy with everything that the rest of the school year has to offer. The middle school had their elections, and they did an awesome job with speeches, and bribes. Our new President is Anna Rose with Olivia Rindlisbaker as Vice President, and Reese Ward as secretary. Sixth grade representatives are Kody Foster and Scout Morrison. Seventh grade representatives are Myka Hayden, Cooper Spencer, and Porter Hatch. Eighth grade representatives are Jeremia Perry and Bryan Egley. I think we will have a great student council next year. Our track season is quickly coming to a close. The students have done a great job, and continue to do better each meet. We are still looking forward to Lagoon, the awards assembly, and our reading contest party. There are still a lot of activities and projects left. Please encourage your student to continue reading, working on, and completing projects, and assignments. We are proud of the middle school students for their determination, and drive to succeed.

High School: It’s a crazy busy time of the year for the high school as our school year is winding down. Our track team is working hard and the athlete’s that are participating continue to get better and better. Many of the kids say they PR at each meet and that shows how hard they are working to improve. Our FFA Ag Mechanics team did a great job in their competition – our FFA students always represent North Gem well! The Drama Club presented their play, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” on April 19-20 and it was a wonderful success! The juniors just finished the last of their I-SATs and now we’re all gearing up for finals. The Junior Prom is this weekend and most of our students have dates and are excited to participate. Our seniors have already taken their Senior Trip – they went to the Salt Lake City area – and are now gearing up for graduation. Our “Cowboys in Action” day is scheduled for Monday, May 20th, in Chesterfield. The high school will then be going to Downata on Tuesday, the 21st and then come back for the awards banquet that night. And finally, we’ll have our graduation on Wednesday, the 22nd and say good-bye and GOOD LUCK to the class of 2024!
There you have it. So much has happened, and more will happen as we continue to work and play until the last day. “Thank you” to everyone that has helped and continues to help make North Gem Schools great.

Cowboy Makes a Difference

The NGHS Theater Directors Producers: Candy Rindlisbaker-Porter, Raquel Reed, and Riley Askew

This team has been working together for many years to bring wonderful performances to the North Gem Community. Their time commitment to supporting and directing our students has been tremendous. Candy commutes daily for hours to be here with our students and provides positive, patient guidance for our students as they learn lines and engage in character. Riley has been the stage crew, light and sound wizard, and general “fix it” man since he was in high school at North Gem. Raquel has served to fill in all other gaps from costumes, materials for backdrops, props, and co-directing with Candy. With the completion of this year’s performance of “Arsenic and Old Lace” the three have decided to retire from the NGHS Theater production program and allow for others the opportunity to step up and take on this annual event. Their dedication is a true example of Cowboy Spirit!

Cowboy Spirit

Mrs. Lisa Barfuss

Lisa and her husband live in Bancroft and have had two children graduate from North Gem. She works at the extension office in Soda Springs as a 4-H Program Coordinator. She has been volunteering in the middle school cooking and crafts classes for two years. She is very helpful, and always has great ideas. She has been teaching them easy food items to cook on their own. The students have loved learning the art of cooking, and how to make these meals, desserts, and snacks. They also love the opportunity to eat everything that they cook. The students will tell her what they want to bake, cook or create, and she will come up with something to fit in that category. This is one of her many strengths. She loves to see students succeed, and will go to any lengths to help them. The students love her funny personality, and the way that she makes cooking fun. She has helped to make this cooking class a big success.

You are the reason we believe in good people.
