Lexington School District Two Home

It seems like just yesterday that our students were meeting their new teachers and classmates and settling into new routines on the first day of school, yet here we are at the completion of the 2023-2024 school year – and what a year it has been!

Before we fully turn the page to the next school year, let’s take a moment to celebrate the many accomplishments and successes of our students, educators, and schools. Let’s start with this: The Airport and Brookland-Cayce graduates of the Class of 2024, just over 500 in total, brought in nearly $17 million in scholarships, a healthy increase over last year. Not only did our high schoolers excel in academics but in extracurriculars as well – nearly two dozen athletes signed letters of commitment to play their sports at the collegiate level this fall, for example, while students developed leadership and service not only through our robust offerings of school-related organizations and internships but through informal mentoring of the district’s younger students. Across the district in the arts, nearly 300 of our elementary, middle, and high school students were selected to participate in prestigious music groups at local, region, and state levels, while others received recognition for theatre and dance performances. Some of the best in fine arts produced this year in our schools were displayed earlier this month in the annual District Art Show.

 

In our schools, Fulmer and Busbee were redesignated as National Schools to Watch, a recognition awarded to high-performing middle schools in the areas of student growth and continued improvement.  Three of our schools earned Best badges from the annual US News and World Report ranking.  This year we continued to grow and refine existing programs including our AP and dual enrollment offerings, College and Career Readiness focus, LAUNCH accelerated academic program, and Lex2.5 after-school tutoring, while also developing our Dual Language Immersion Program, launching at Riverbank Elementary next year and open to the district’s 5K students. We're excited for this new opportunity for some of our kindergarten students and look forward to expanding it to additional grade levels in the future.  We also are working to expand the reach of our Lexington Two Innovation Center to middle school students, at a time when they are considering their future paths, to invite them to explore the center’s college and career opportunities, which next year include the addition of small animal care to the roughly 14 other program offerings.

One of the most significant events of the 2023-2024 school year was the opening of our Lexington Two Performing Arts Center (L2PAC), which made its debut on May 1 as the final project in a $225 million bond referendum approved by voters in 2014. Over the past decade, the district has made capital upgrades across the district that included the opening of Riverbank Elementary School, Cayce Elementary School, and the Lexington Two Innovation Center, among other improvements. In just this first month with the new center, we have held an arts performance, an art show, the Adult Education graduation, induction teacher celebration, and tours and meetings for community organizations.  This beautiful state-of-the-art center is a point of pride not only for the school district but for the surrounding community, which invested in the future through the best educational opportunities for students. We could not be more grateful.

 

We have many things to celebrate, and these are just a few examples of the things we are proud of as a district. They would not be possible without our dedicated educators, support staff, and administrators who work tirelessly to provide enriching, engaging and safe learning environments. The support of our district families as well as community, business, and faith organizations is not only appreciated but critical to the success of our students and schools.  We are thankful for all you do as we collaboratively work to educate strong, responsible citizens and leaders.
