online.flippingbook.comAlso on Friday, we were invited over to Mrs. Worley’s second-grade classroom at Gilbert Elementary for the Peanut Butter and Jelly lesson. I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, but it was a lesson that everyone should have experienced. It was great for kids and adults of all... ages.
Here’s the gist: Mrs. Worley’s class has bene woking on Habit 6: Synergize. This is working as a team, or working together, and the PB&J lesson was all about working in groups to achieve a common goal. That goal here was to write the perfect set of directions for making a PB&J sandwich.
When the students were done, each group read their directions aloud to the class and Mes. Worley, who just so happened to bring all of the fixings needed to make a PB&J sandwich.
How did the kids do with their directions? Well, let’s just say they learned a valuable lesson (and here’s where we can all learn): When jotting down directions, it’s important to be specific and precise.
For example, if the students didn’t say “take a knife, put it into the jar of peanut butter, and then spread the peanut butter onto the bread,” then Mrs. Worley simply used her hands to get the peanut butter out of the jar.
As you can guess, laughter ensued.
Yes, this is a fun activity, but it was also a useful activity that the students and I took a lot from. The pictures were fun too.
Well done, Mrs. Worley! #GilbertPride #TigersTogehter
Friday around lunchtime gave us the chance for a 2-for at the high school. Mrs. Miller invited us over to her classroom to see the horse and miniature horse brought in by the Soma family once again, and we also got the chance to see the John Ronca Friday Lunchtime Concert.
If you didn’t ...already know, Assistant Principal Ronca typically plays his guitar and sings throughout the lunch periods on Fridays, and this week he had a guest singer during the early lunch period when Mrs. Maguire courageously took the microphone. It’s always fun to be in attendance for this at the end of the week.
And then we moved on to Mrs. Miller’s classroom to see the horses! The Soma family has graciously brought horses into the classroom for several years to give Mrs. Miller’s students a chance to learn the proper grooming techniques of horses. This year was no different in that a number of “visitors” also snuck down to see the horses. It makes for some great photos. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
