On May 9th the 4th Grade class traveled to Kearney to participate in “Stellar Teller” Day sponsored by the Nebraska Council on Economic Education. The guest speaker was Nebraska author Julia Cook, who shared her book I Am Money and other financial tips including we are not too young to start a business. We also had competitions to see who could count money the fastest. We even received a copy of Julia’s book! Michelle Milleson with Western Nebraska Bank joined us and awarded us all with teller awards. McKenna received the Stellar Teller Award due to her excellent customer service. Then we toured the Archway Monument. It was great to see everything we have studied in Nebraska History come to life. It was a great day!!

Thomas County Library Bookmobile Summer Schedule 2024

Halsey Wednesday June 5th, and 26th, and August 7th
(The bookmobile will not be going out in July. We will be putting all new books on in July, for the upcoming school year)

The bookmobile will be at the Halsey Elementary School from 12:00 -12:45
The bookmobile will offer children, juvenile, young adult, and adult books.
If there is a book that you would like to read and it is not on the bookmobile we will bring it from the Thomas County Library next time on the route.

Several art students from Sandhills attended the Mullen Art Show on April 16, 2024. The students participated in creating Marble Run Sculptures from junk while the artwork was being judged. 

Some of the many awards the students received were the following:

Charlsie Teahon: 2nd place in computer generated art

Ember Chavez: 1st place in photography

Rylyn Moody: 1st place in photography and 2nd place in fiber arts

Sophia Glidden: 2nd place in fiber arts

Mason Sutton: 1st place in photography

Eli Brogdon: 2nd place in pottery

Mattee Zutavern: 2nd places in acrylic painting and photography, and 1st place in pottery

Paizley Zutavern: 2nd place in collage. Paizley also received the Best in Show award in the junior high division for her acrylic painting, and placed 2nd overall in the total points scored for junior high.

The school board has approved the 2024-25 school calendar.

Sandhills Public Schools has openings in the following positions: 

School Nurse - This position takes approximately 40 hours per year and duties include: student health screenings, monitoring health equipment, bus driver drug testing, and other school health duties.  If interested please reach out to J.D. at the high school 308-538-2224.

Kitchen/custodial aide position -  This position takes approximately 30-35 hours per week and duties include: loading and delivering lunch to the elementary in Halsey, serving lunch and cleaning after lunch, and general maintenance in the new activity building. SPED RECORD RETENTION:

Sandhills Public Schools will be cleaning obsolete files and records from file cabinets this summer.  We will be destroying SPED files that are more than 5 years old from the graduation of the student. If you would like your students SPED files for your records, please contact the school prior to June 1, 2024.  This is in compliance with 009.03M Retention and Destruction of Information and Records.

009.03M Retention and Destruction of Information and Records

009.03M1 The school district or approved cooperative shall retain special education records for five (5) years after the completion of the activities for which special education funds were used.

009.03M2 The school district or approved cooperative shall inform parents when personally identifiable information collected, maintained, or used is no longer needed to provide educational services to the child.

009.03M3 The information which is no longer necessary to provide educational services to the child, must be destroyed at the request of the parents. However, a permanent record of a student's name, address, and phone number, his or her grades, attendance record, classes attended, grade level completed, and year completed may be maintained without time limitation.
