2024 American Legion Poppy Poster Award Winners

Poppy Poster recognition awards were given to students in grades 3-6 at Ponca Public School on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, by Jane Dillon, president of the Jackson American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and Russ Rasmussen, Jackson American Legion Commander.
Students in third through sixth grade were invited by the Jackson American Legion and Auxiliary to create an original poppy poster for the American Legion Auxiliary’s annual contest. Posters were judged with first, second and third place awards given in four classes. The following students received a certificate and a monetary award:
Class I: Third Grade- 1st place:Sam Sjobom, 2st place:Gunner McGhee, 3rd place: Brea Goeden
Class II: Fourth Grade-1st place: Maggie Poulosky, 2nd place: Audrey Etter, 3rd place: Liberty Schroeder
Class II: Fifth Grade- 1st place: Nora Krusemark, 2nd place: Kenzie Nelson, 3rd place: Emmett Wortmann
Class III: Sixth Grade- 1st. place: Aubree McGhee, 2nd place: Hudson O’Dell, 3rd place: Brody Keller
The following posters were judged at the state level: Class I (3rd grade)-Sam Sjobom, Class II (4th-5th grade)-Nora Krusemark, Class III (6th grade)- Aubree McGhee
First place winners each received five dollars, second place winners received three dollars, and third place winners received two dollars awards.
Ponca Sixth Graders Earn President’s Education Academic Award

Ponca sixth grade students, Madison Bevelhymer, Peyton Kloster, Aubree McGhee, and Allie Schweers were awarded the President’s Education Academic Award in a third through sixth grade assembly at Ponca Public School on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
The President’s Education Academic Award was established to encourage students to achieve high academic standards by recognizing and rewarding them for educational excellence. Students must earn a grade point average of 90% or higher and achieve a score in the 85th percentile or higher in math or reading on the standardized achievement test (MAPS Test) given by the school.

Americanism Essay recognition awards were given to students in grades 3-6 at Ponca Public School on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, by Jane Dillon, president of the Jackson American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and Russ Rasmussen, Jackson American Legion Commander.
Students in third through sixth grade were invited by the Jackson American Legion to write an original Americanism Essay for the Legion Auxiliary’s annual contest. The 2024 essay theme was: “What does freedom mean to you?”
Essays were judged with first, second and third place awards given in three classes. The following students received a certificate and a monetary award:
Class I: Third Grade-1st place: Declan Warner, 2nd place: Sam Sjobom 3rd place: Haddie Taylor
Class I: Fourth Grade-1st place: Myles Chytka, 2nd place: Jase Uthof, 3rd place: Audrey Etter
Class II: Fifth Grade- 1st place: Nora Krusemark, 2nd place: Johna White , 3rd place: Audrey Burrell
Class II: Sixth Grade- 1st. place: Skyler Pick, 2nd place: Alaina Kramper, 3rd place: Tatum Pfister
The following essays will be judged at the state level: Class I (3rd-4th grade)-Myles Chytka, Class II (5th-6th grade)-Nora Krusemark
