SUMMER EBT ANNOUNCEMENT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AS ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES HAVE CHANGED

Dear MLSD Parents and/or Guardians:

Ohio is participating in a new program this summer called Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (Summer EBT), also known as SUN Bucks. Even though your child’s school provides no cost meals to all students, each child must be approved for free or reduced-price meals this school year to receive Summer EBT. If your household income is less than 185% of the federal poverty level, school aged children in your household may be eligible.

Participating households will receive a one-time $120 payment for each eligible child on a benefit card you will receive in the mail. You can use the money to buy food during the summer at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other authorized retailers. If you receive more than $120 per eligible child in your household, do not use the benefits. Contact the SEBT Helpline at 1-866-244-0071, option 1 as soon as possible to confirm or correct the error.

If your child(ren) currently receives Ohio Medicaid, OWF or SNAP benefits, their name was likely provided to Manchester Local Schools by the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.  If your children receive any of these benefits but you have not received the additional $120 payment by July 15, 2024, please contact Ma’ry’e Kinhalt in the Central Office at 937-549-4777 option 1, to see if your child’s name was provided to us by the state.

If you think your children may be eligible, and you did not receive the payment, you can apply for Summer EBT using the application at https://sebt.ohio.gov/. Be sure to apply by August 16 to get benefits this summer. If you have questions about the application, contact the Summer EBT Helpline at 1-866-244-0071, option 1.

You will need to provide your child’s name, school, date of birth, along with the names of other people in your household, your household income, and address where you would like the benefit card to be sent. You will not need to provide any documentation to apply but could be asked to verify your information. Receiving Summer EBT will not affect children’s or families’ immigration status.

In addition to Summer EBT, children under 18 years of age in your household can also receive free meals during the summer at a summer meal site. Manchester Local School District will be providing free breakfast and lunch from May 28th to June 28th in the High School cafeteria Mon-Fri (closed June 19th) You can call 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (or text 914-342-7744 with the keyword “summer meals”) to find other locations.

For additional questionsplease contact the Summer EBT Helpline at 1-866-244-0071, option 1.

Sincerely,

Ma’ry’e Kinhalt, Administrative Assistant

Only 2 students will be offered the part-time internships, which, if chosen after being interviewed, will begin either mid-June or afterwards once hired by the South Central Ohio ESC. The work days would be weekdays mid-June through the first week of August.

This grant is not hired by Manchester Local nor affiliated with the MLSD Board of Education. However, we do the interviews and choose the 2 students to give the names to the South Central Ohio ESC for recommended hire.

Attention Parents - Erin's Law

Parents and Guardians,

Per Ohio Revised Code (3313.60)- Erin's Law, requires each school district in Ohio (Ohio became the 38th state in the nation to enact this law) to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention for grades K-6 and developmentally appropriate instruction in sexual violence prevention education for grades 7-12. To meet the mandate, Public School Works offers grade level appropriate videos (see links below) that the school can utilize to meet the mandated requirement. Parents can 'opt out' if they wish to do so and I will be sending a parent notice/ letter home with each student to take home to their parents this Thursday, September 7th. The letter is attached. If opting out, please return the signed letter by September 15th.

The synopsis at the bottom of this e-mail explains the mandate. I have included the video links below, too, per full transparency.

Please do not comment on this post as the option is given to ‘opt out’ plus every school must follow the law per the mandate.

Respectfully,

Nick Roberts (Superintendent)

Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 288 into law on January 3, 2023, mandating that school districts notify parents about required curriculum on child sexual abuse and sexual violence prevention. S.B. 288 altered R.C. 3313.60 to require that children in grades kindergarten through six receive annual developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention, including information on available counseling and resources for children who are sexually abused. The instruction and information provided cannot be connected in any way to any individual, entity, or organization that provides, promotes, counsels, or makes referrals for abortion or abortion-related services. S.B. 288 further requires that students in grades seven through twelve receive developmentally appropriate instruction in dating violence prevention education and sexual violence prevention education, which must include instruction in recognizing dating violence warning signs and characteristics of healthy relationships.
