This week we highlight
Rachel David!!!
This is Rachel’s first year at Potomac School as our 3rd grade teacher. Ms. Rachel graduated from MSU-Northern with her bachelors in Elementary Education K-8 and her masters in Curriculum, Instruction, and Learning. She has three brothers, three step brothers, one step sister, one half-brother, and one sister-in-law. Her mom's name is Becky and my dad's name is Myron. Rachel also just recently became an aunt this last Jan.! For interests, she enjoys just about anything relating to fine arts, friends, music, and the outdoors. She also works out frequently and hopes to one day renovate a van to travel to national parks during the summers. A little fun fact about Ms. Rachel is that she has never broken a bone in her body and this last August was the first time she had ever moved away from her hometown (of 25 years), Havre MT. Ms. Rachel’s favorite book is The Tale of Despereaux. When asked what makes Potomac special, Ms. Rachel said, “The Potomac community has been so kind to me since I started teaching here. I am very thankful for the generous/small community and beautiful outdoors I am surrounded by, as I walk into the school building, every day. The scenery and fresh pine air really start my day off right.”

This week 3 of our AMAZING staff were recognized for their important contributions to Potomac students!
Abby Stitt was awarded the Maryfrances Shreeve Award for Teaching Excellence from the University of Montana College of Education. This award is given to an educator who has taught in Montana for at least 10 years and is creative, seeks professional growth, and devotes extra time to help students achieve their potential.
Amy Truett was recognized by the Montana School Nutrition Association Board and appointed a position with the Board. She was recently nominated for the MTSNA Professional of the Year: outstanding contribution actively working or retired.

Mrs. Van is one of 102 teachers selected as the 2024 Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year! Nominees represent 50 of NHD's 58 affiliates which include all 50 states and the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, and international schools in Europe and Asia. Each nominee is a teacher who demonstrates a commitment to engaging students in historical learning through the innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills, and participation in the National History Day Contest.
One national winner in the middle school (junior) division (Mrs. Van's division) and one national winner in the high school (senior) division will be selected by a committee of experienced teachers and historians and announced on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the National History Day National Contest Awards Ceremony in College Park, Maryland. The Awards Ceremony will begin around 8 am and will be live streamed at nhd.org/awards-ceremony.

Potomac School 6th-8th grade students participated in the NHD (National History Days) State competition in Bozeman this past weekend. Students presented their projects, all based around the theme of "Turning Points in History", to judges. 14 students qualified to advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C. June 9th-13th! Congratulations to ALL participants; you have worked extremely hard on this year-long research project!! Additionally, a HUGE shout-out to Mrs. Van for organizing this awesome learning experience for Potomac students!

Missoula Electric Cooperative's Bright Future Fund program recently awarded a $1,500 grant to Potomac Elementary School and $1,500 grant to Potomac 7-8 School!
